Sequim High School Communication

Dear Sequim High School Community,

We learned the very sad news that a Sequim High School teacher, Dana Minard passed away this weekend.  Mr. Minard has been a teacher and a coach here at Sequim High School since 2012.

Many of our students, along with our staff and community, will remember Mr. Minard as a dedicated, fun-loving, and caring teacher. He touched the lives of many and will be missed.  A statement was prepared and read to all of our high school students this morning during first period classes.

Please know we have additional counselors available to help today, and in the days to come, as we try to deal with this sad loss.  We understand students react to loss in their own way. Students who have experienced trauma in their lives can be triggered by new traumatic events. While your student may not have had Mr. Minard as a classroom teacher, they may still experience grief, sadness and even anger.  Please contact us if your student is showing signs of struggling and we will make sure to connect your student with a counselor here on campus.

We extend our love and support to the Minard family.  At this time, we do not have specifics on services or how best to extend additional support, as soon as we learn more we will keep our school community updated.  Please take time to care about each other in the days and weeks to come.  Also, because we live in a world where social media can dominate much of our time and attention, please keep the ideals of respect, sensitivity and kindness as we mourn Mr. Minard’s passing.
